The Cyprus Legal System
The law of torts deals with civil wrongs done by tortfeasors that cause loss or harm to an injured party. This usually means that the tortfeasor is liable to compensate the injured party.
Torts may be divided into negligent and intentional torts.
Intentional torts are:
- Assault.
- False imprisonment.
- Malicious prosecution.
- Illegally causing another to breach a contract.
- Unfair competition.
- Fraud.
- Illegally withholding goods.
- Misappropriation.
- Trespassing.
- Illegal interference with movable property.
- Public nuisance.
- Private nuisance.
- Interference to light.
- Illegal invasion of privacy.
- Infliction of mental suffering.
- Misuse of private information.
- Acting to avoid execution of a judgment.
- Defamation (which can also be negligent).
Negligent Torts include:
- Negligent Defamation.
- Professional Liability.
- Personal Liability.
- Occupier’s Liability.
- Employer’s Liability.
- Transporter’s Liability. Etc.
